How to read Super Bowl 56 Odds

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55. However, the Chiefs remain the favorites to win Super Bowl 56 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The Chiefs are listed at 6/1 odds (Bet $100 to win $600), while the defending champion Buccaneers are the third-betting choice at 10/1.

In between Kansas City and Tampa Bay are the Green Bay Packers, who are currently at 9/1 odds.

Here is a quick reference on Super Bowl odds for the upcoming 2021 NFL season.

How to read NFL Las Vegas Odds

The point-spread was developed to provide a balance for both teams involved in a contest to entice bettors to potentially back the weaker team and receive points. The two squads in a game are listed with a title, either a favorite or an underdog. The favorite is usually the perceived better team in the game, as backing them means giving up several points.

The favorite is always listed with a minus (-) sign before the point-spread while the underdog is labeled with a plus (+) label.

Ex. Favorite -10, Underdog +10

On the VegasInsider.com odds page, there is another number associated with the favorite and its listed as -10. This number is simply defined as “vig” or what many in the sports betting industry call vigorish. Another common term is called “juice” and it’s technically the price the bettor has to pay on a straight wager.

Ex. Bet $110 to win $100 (10% juice)
Ex. Bet $100 to win $90.91 (10% juice)

It's not uncommon to see other values posted other than -10. Examples seen on the NFL Vegas Odds pages could include -08, -12, -15 and -20. The -10 price is the most common value in the industry while many books offer reduced 'juice odds' and that would fall into the -08 category.

The lower-juice sportsbooks are normally found outside of the state Nevada. If you are in a state where sports betting is legal, please check out our online sportsbook directory to find the best and most secure places to make NFL bets.

Another number that’s posted on the NFL Las Vegas is the total or ‘over/under’ for the specific matchup. If the favorite is designated as the home team, then the total will be listed above and vice versa if the visitors are favorites.

All of the above numbers are listed next to the teams, and before each matchup is a Rotation number. The NFL Las Vegas Odds are listed in order of rotation and those numbers are generated and produced by the sportsbooks. Above each matchup and rotation is the Time of the game, which is subject to change. All game times are Eastern Standard Time.

NFL Open Line

One of the best features on the NFL Vegas Odds is the Open Line. This numbers consists of the first betting line received from one of our Las Vegas or Global Sportsbooks. The opening line varies depending on the sportsbook but it provides a clear-cut rating that the oddsmakers use. If you’re betting on the NFL or any other sport, it’s a great idea to view the open line first.

VI Consensus NFL Line

The VegasInsider.com Consensus NFL Line is just as important as the Open Line and also a key resource on odds platform. The Consensus column could be called a “Median Line” since it shows the most consistent number provided by the sportsbooks on VegasInsider.com. The consensus line will be the same as the open line but once the wagers start coming in, this number is often different than the openers.

How do I bet on the Super Bowl?

We know that you can bet on the Super Bowl and all of NFL Futures or bet on the NFL Draft at any time of the year, but what’s the process? The future wager or the “Odds to Win” bet on the Super Bowl is correctly selecting a team to win an event that takes place at a later time. A bettor will have his wagered money tied up until there is an outcome and bettors will receive fixed odds when they place the wager. In the case of the Super Bowl, you’re not a winner or loser until you see zeros on the clock in the final game.

Most sportsbooks offer different ways to read to Super Bowl Odds. In the fractional NFL Futures Odds format below, you simply take the odds and multiply by the amount wagered.

Ex. Green Bay (8/1) to win the Super Bowl

The Packers are listed as an 8/1 betting choice to win the Super Bowl. If you wager $100 on Green Bay to win the NFC and they capture the championship, then you would win $800 (8 ÷ 1 x 100). Your online betting account would then credit your account $900, which includes your win and stake ($100).

The American Format would see Green Bay listed at +800 and for the Decimal Format, the Packers would be 9.00.

If you are in a state where online betting is legal, we encourage you to check out our sportsbook directory to find the most trustworthy and reputable sites and mobile apps to place your Super Bowl bets.

On Saturday, February 8th, the XFL will kick off its season with two games for the first time since 2001. Nearly two decades later, the relaunch of Vince McMahon’s football league has generated a buzz in the sports world due to the respectable names involved in the league and the amount of money backing it.

Additionally, there are a global TV networks involved with this venture and a WWE relationship with FOX that could really boost the XFL’s chances.

With that said, there are still plenty of critics that doubt the XFL will survive. In fact, some XFL betting sites have released odds on the chances of the XFL closing after one season. Additionally, there are odds on whether or not the relaunch of this “extreme” football league can surpass the AAF, which was in its spot this time last year.

Let’s break the huddle and take a look at these XFL prop bets, analyze the odds, and hopefully make some money with our predictions.

Odds That the XFL Shuts Down After 1 Season

  • Yes (+140)
  • No (-200)

In 2001, the XFL was such a forward thinking idea that NBC and the media didn’t know how to fully embrace it. The league was a joint venture between NBC and the WWE (WWF at the time) and it featured ideas that made the game more entertaining compared to the NFL which felt more bogged down.

Unfortunately, the XFL was about 20 years too soon because when NBC got cold feet after losing an estimated $35 million dollars, the league was cancelled with only one season to show for.

Since then, the WWE has gone on to become a global entertainment powerhouse including their hugely successful digital streaming platform – WWE Network. The multi-billion dollar company even landed a massive contract with FOX to air one of their weekly TV shows – SmackDown.

In today’s climate, the WWE is looked at as more than just pro wrestling. It’s viewed as a money making machine with many global avenues for revenue.

In addition to the WWE’s success, the American appetite for football has grown exponentially. This growth is evident in the financial success that the NFL has had since 2001. Additionally, both the NFL Combine and the NFL Draft have become ratings successes due to fans wanting football year round.

Vince McMahon saw that the climate has changed towards year-round football and his XFL vision. So, in late 2017, McMahon sold off $100 million dollars of WWE stock to fund the XFL 2.0 by himself. But, McMahon didn’t stop there.

In March 2019, McMahon liquidated another $270 million dollars in WWE shares to have additional funding for the XFL. He’s reportedly willing to invest up to $500 million in the league.

In addition to the funding, I’ve listed six more reasons why the XFL will succeed and why you should definitely take the “No” option for this XFL prop bet.

A new era begins.

XFL Bet: No, the league won’t be one and done (-200)

Several Reasons Why the XFL Will Succeed This Time Around

Here are several legitimate reasons why I believe the XFL will succeed this time around and could change the way football is played for years to come:

Fans Want More Football

I touched on this above. Over the last few years, football fans have showed that they want more football throughout the year.

From February until August, NFL fans used to have to wait for any kind of on-field action. However, their love and desire for football boosted the NFL Network’s ratings in the offseason especially with events like the NFL Combine and the NFL Draft.

Speaking of the Draft, it has become so popular that the NFL is taking it to different cities and still getting hundreds of thousands of people to show up.

With that said, fans also proved last year that they wanted more football by embracing the AAF before the league went under due to a lack of funding. That’s not something the XFL will have to worry about.

The increased appetite for football during the NFL’s offseason has created a demand and an opportunity for a stable league to fill the public desire.

Sports Betting Will Boost the XFL

Just like with other professional leagues, sports betting will help boost the success of the XFL. It will increase ratings and maybe even live attendance.

As states are now legalizing sports betting throughout the country, this industry has been a catalyst for other professional leagues like the NFL. In fact, NASCAR and the PGA are completely on board and improving their numbers due to sports betting.

I don’t see any reason to think that sports betting can’t help elevate the prominence of the XFL.

Numerous online betting sites, along with traditional casinos, have already acknowledged that the arrival of the XFL could bring increased betting action during the months of February through April. A period of time that’s usually focused on college basketball’s March Madness.

Patrick Eichner, a PointsBet spokesman, believes that there will be a reasonable amount of action on the XFL:

“We have solid hopes for the XFL. NFL games obviously generate the majority of action for U.S. operators, so given the American appetite for football, we expect a reasonable turnover for XFL. Not comparable to NFL, but it still should be decent.”

Mattias Stetz, CEO of Rush Street Interactive, also stated that he believes the added interest in betting on XFL games will give a slight boost to casinos and online betting sites.

The impact of sports betting has already been explored by the XFL as they’ve recently announced a partnership with Genius Sports to ensure the integrity of their league. Jeffrey Pollack, president and COO of the XFL, made the following statement:

“Sports betting is growing rapidly in the US, and we are gearing up to be a good citizen and thoughtful participant in the marketplace. Our alliance with Genius Sports is an important first step and foundational element.”

With their integrity covered, more states allowing XFL wagers, and sports betting entities embracing the new league’s potential action, the XFL already has made huge progress from its initial launch.

The WWE Has More Ways to Promote the XFL

In addition to an increased demand for football and the popularity of sports betting, the XFL also has more ways to promote their league than they did back in 2001.

For starters, the XFL will have games on ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2, FOX, FS1 and FS2. From there, the XFL will be streamed on the Fox Sports GO app and the ESPN+ app. This is a massive amount of exposure from three of the world’s most popular networks.

In 2001, they didn’t have multiple TV networks or streaming media apps. Additionally, the XFL will have the benefit of Social Media and YouTube, which weren’t around during their first run 19 years ago. This is a huge boost to XFL content and could create a diehard following with unique content.

Make no mistake about it, the WWE is a major Social Media influencer with hundreds of millions of followers or subscribers across all of their digital channels. I’m confident that McMahon and company will use this Social Media reach to help boost the XFL.

With a massive marketing machine behind the XFL, its exposure will dwarf what the AAF did and rival what the NFL can do.

There Are Credible Officials in Key XFL Positions

The XFL, and Vince McMahon, realized that in order to succeed they would need credible people running the league. This can’t be a WWE style of running things, but needs to be more like other professional leagues.

With that in mind, the XFL hired Oliver Luck as their commissioner and CEO. He left a high ranking position with the NCAA to take this XFL opportunity. Former Bills’ GM Doug Whaley was brought on as the Senior VP of football operations. COO Jeffrey Pollack was snatched from his front office position with the LA Chargers.

From there, the XFL sought to hire recognizable and credible head coaches. They have Jim Zorn, Pep Hamilton, Mark Trestman, June Jones, and one of the best college coaches in recent years Bob Stoops.

With these coaches in place, franchises were also able to snag reputable NFL personnel and former players for front office and assistant coaching positions like:

Current Nfl Odds Week 16

  • Daryl Johnston – Former Cowboys FB and NFL Analyst
  • Ted Cottrell – Longtime NFL Coordinator
  • Randy Mueller – Former NFL GM
  • Norm Chow – Former NFL Coordinator and College Coach
  • Pepper Johnson – Former NFL Defensive Stalwart and Positional Coach
  • Kevin Gilbride – Longtime Coordinator and Former NFL Head Coach
  • Jerry Glanville – Former NFL Head Coach
  • Mike Riley – Former NFL and College Head Coach

The names above are just a few examples of the XFL’s allure and vision to make this league sustainable. However, perhaps one of the best signings by the XFL was hiring Dean Blandino as their head of officiating.

Blandino is a former NFL referee and spent five years as the NFL’s Vice President of Officiating. But, he’s become more well-known due to his current position as Fox Sport’s Football Rules Analyst where he did a fantastic job explaining NFL rules and breaking down controversial penalty calls.

Former All-Pro punter, and current ESPN personality, Pat McAfee has joined the XFL as a sideline reporter. He will bring a witty personality and understanding of the game to each of ESPN’s broadcasts. He joins Steve Levy and former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky as ESPN’s XFL top coverage team.

FOX will feature popular analyst Curt Menefee who typically hosts their NFL pre-shows. One of FOX’s top college analysts Joe Klatt will join Menefee as the station’s top broadcast team.

There’s a strong chance that both ESPN and FOX add some of their rising, less tenured analysts as their second coverage teams.

The XFL Has Legitimate Players

Unlike the first XFL season, this relaunch has plenty of notable former NFL and college players like:

  • Landry Jones
  • Kenneth Farrow
  • Will Hill
  • Matt McGloin
  • Josh Johnson
  • Cameron Artis-Payne
  • Cardale Jones
  • Sammie Coates

That’s just a small sample of former NFL players who were also college football stars. But, the poaching of talent wasn’t just limited to these two leagues. There was also an exodus of players from the CFL as well.

Several CFL head coaches have publicly acknowledged that there’s a lack of overall QB talent and number of players available. Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Craig Dickenson made the following comments:

“But yes, if there was no XFL there’d be a lot more players you’d be looking at to bring into rookie camp and workout this off-season. We’ll see how it goes. They’re playing games here pretty soon and I wish those guys the best. The more football there is, the better.”

Calgary Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson stated that it’s harder to find quarterbacks now because of the XFL.

With increased talent comes a better on-field product. Additionally, that could attract more players which will help the XFL become even more successful.

XFL Rule Changes Will Make the Game More Entertaining Than the NFL

Before we can talk about the new and improved modifications to the game, we have to take a look at a few of the first groundbreaking changes that the XFL made with their unique style of football:

  • Skycams – some of the best views in the NFL are from the skycams. In fact, it’s hard to imagine what a football game would be like without it. Well, it was the XFL that first made this camera view a major part of their live coverage.
  • In-game Interviews – the XFL was the first football league to really make in-game interviews with coaches and players a part of every broadcast.
  • Inside Locker Rooms – The XFL also emphasized the access that fans had inside a team’s locker room before, during and after games. It’s another aspect that the NFL blatantly copied.
  • No Extra Point Kick – The NFL Adopted the 2-point rule after the XFL had already eliminated any extra-point kicks.

As you can see, today’s NFL and College Football broadcasts have been greatly affected by what the XFL did in 2001. Now, the question is whether or not the XFL can make more changes to improve the game of football. The following are some rule changes that might just do the trick:

“X-treme” Kickoff Changes

This is a pretty extreme change to the game of football. Not only do the special teams lineup 5 yards apart, but there are restrictions on pre-catch movements as well.

  • Touchbacks go to the 35 yard line.
  • Kicks out of bounds allow receiving team to start at 45 yard line.
  • Only Kicker and Returner can move until ball is blocked.
  • Kickoff team starts at receiving team’s 35 yard line.
  • Kickoff return team starts at their 30 yard line.

It seems bizarre to have the kick teams so close to each other. With that in mind, I think these changes can make the kickoff game much more exciting.

As for punts, the coverage team can’t leave until the ball is kicked. If there’s a touchback or the ball goes out of bounds, the receiving team will start at the 35 yard line or at the spot where the ball went out of bounds as long as it’s beyond the 35 yard line.

Two Forward Passes

An offense can now throw the ball forward twice on a play as long as the first pass doesn’t go past the line of scrimmage. I’m very curious to see how offensive minded coaches like Bob Stoops makes the most of this rule.

One Foot In-Bounds

When it comes to catching one of those two passes, or any pass down the field, a player just needs one foot in-bounds for the catch to be legal. The NFL requires two feet in bounds, but College Football only requires one foot.

Officiating Changes

We all know that the NFL needs fix the issues with the officiating in the league. It’s become a deafening criticism each season. The XFL is trying to prevent anything like this from happening. They will have nine officials on the field during the games.

One of the officials will be responsible for spotting the ball to help minimize the time it takes between plays.

There will be personnel in the booth to intervene on plays if needed and to correct potential mistakes by the on-field refs. Additionally, there will be traditional booth reviews just like in the NFL.

The Name of the Game is Speed

The XFL is committed to keeping this game moving at a faster speed all season long. They don’t want to be bogged down like the NFL is and have games go for 3 ½ to 4 hours. Instead, they are aiming to cap a game at 2 hours and 45 minutes, which is about an hour less time.

One way to speed things up is by keeping the game clock running at all times except within 2 minutes of each half. Additionally, there will only be two time outs per half and a 10 minute half time. I’m not sure if players will even leave the sideline if that’s the case.

There’s also no coin toss as the home team always chooses to kick, receive or defer.

Extra Point Plays Following a TD

Here’s another aspect of the game where the XFL has made football more exciting. Since there are no kicks after a TD is scored, teams will have to decide between the following options:

Current
  • 1-Point Play – line up at the 2 yard line
  • 2-Point Play – line up from the 3 yard line
  • 3-Point Play – line up from the 10 yard line

I wonder how many teams are going to go for that 3-point play. It could really have a dramatic impact on scoring in the league.

An Overtime Shootout

If a game does go into Overtime then each team will have 5 single play possessions to score from the 5 yard line. If it’s still tied, then there will be rotating possessions until there’s a winner. There will be no tie games.

The NFL’s OT rule is that if a team scores a TD they win the game. However, if the team who gets the ball first scores just a FG then the other team gets a possession. The NFL also allows for tie games in the regular season.

Can the XFL Surpass the AAF’s Recent Mark of 33 Games?

  • Yes (-345)
  • No (+225)

Did you not just read all of the reasons why I believe the XFL will last for more than one season? They have a lot of positive things going for them including money and TV exposure.

With that said, I see no reason why they can’t demolish the AAF’s mark of 33 games last year. Even if the league is a flop, it will still go the full season like it did in 2001. There’s no way it will shut down operations in the middle of the season like the AAF did.

This league is already funded with more money allocated for sustenance and growth. Players and teams don’t have to worry about a shutdown due to the league not having any money or an owner unwilling to pay.

Additionally, the XFL has a massive marketing machine behind them from three major TV networks to a few online platforms. Not to mention, the WWE has one of the largest followings on Social Media if you add up all of the accounts for their organizations and their talents.

This league is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Eventually, I see the XFL becoming a destination for talented college players instead of going to the NFL where they may not make as much or not get drafted at all.

The XFL has eight teams that will play 10 games apiece. From there, they will have a two week Playoff system where there’s a Conference Championship game and the XFL title game. In total, an XFL season is scheduled to have 82 games.

For this bet, I see the XFL completing all 82 games and coming back next year bigger and better.

XFL Bet: Yes, the XFL will surpass the AAF’s mark of 33 games (-345)

Will the XFL Sign Former NFL Stars?

In addition to the front office personnel, coaches and players mentioned above, the XFL is a good bet to go after other former NFL stars or disgruntled NFL players looking for a bigger payday.

Since the announcement that the XFL was relaunching, football betting sites have speculated on the future of a number of former NFL players. Perhaps, no other player has drawn more national attention over that span than Colin Kaepernick.

In fact, at one point BetOnline had Kaepernick listed at +100 odds to be the 1st former QB to sign with the XFL out of a list that included, Manziel, Vick, Tebow and Favre.

Tebow has made it clear that he’s sticking with baseball. Vick and Favre are retired from the game. Johnny Manziel had a chance to join the XFL, but none of the teams drafted him or brought him in as a late addition.

As for Kaepernick, it appears the ship has sailed on the former 49ers QB from joining the XFL as well. XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck commented on Kaepernick’s salary demands being the reason why he’s not in the league:

“I think his salary demands are way out of our ballpark. He was never really a viable option.”

Odds

At one point, Kaepernick was reportedly seeking $20 million dollars per season. Instead of viewing the XFL as a stepping stone back to the NFL, it appears that Kaepernick and his representatives have different ideas.

Personally, I believe Kaepernick could become a star in the XFL, make some money and also make some NFL teams come looking to sign him.

In addition to Kaepernick and Manziel, the following former NFL stars have been linked with the XFL via sports betting websites:

Antonio Brown to the XFL

In late September, after one of the NFL’s leading receivers Antonio Brown was cut by the Patriots due to personal legal issues, MyBookie quickly jumped on board with the following odds on the chance that Brown goes to the XFL:

  • Yes (+200)
  • No (-300)

Brown’s camp quickly shot down any chance of him going to the XFL. Despite Brown’s legal issues preventing him from returning to the league for the rest of the 2019 season, he is firmly committed to joining the NFL in 2020:

“Absolutely, I’m looking forward to playing next year. Hopefully, the NFL will be making a decision here shortly and hopefully I can get back to business and continue to improve. I’m just looking forward and getting the opportunity to be back out there, you know, get a feel inside it, you know, just want to present myself in the right way.”

It’s clear that Brown won’t be going to the XFL or into a boxing ring against Logan Paul. However, there is one star wide receiver that might actually jump to the XFL.

Will Josh Gordan Go to the XFL?

Current Xfl Odds Super Bowl

Like with Antonio Brown, MyBookie released odds on the future of the talented, but troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon. Currently, the odds favor Gordon retiring.

  • None/Retire -120
  • XFL +250
  • NFL +350
  • CFL +800

Gordon’s NFL career has become a tragic tale of personal issues that have led to multiple substance violations over the last few years. Despite rebuilding his career with Seattle this season, Gordon was popped for another failed test and suspended indefinitely.

Since 2012, he’s faced six suspensions regarding substance abuse violations. Two of those suspensions were indefinite. Unfortunately, after reportedly failing the same drug test four times now, NFL teams and the league won’t look the other way.

Gordon is just 28 years old and is still very talented. If he can get help with these issues then he might be able to return to the NFL. However, that’s a big hill to climb and the odds are stacked against him. But, those odds aren’t stacked against Gordon joining the XFL.

Gordon could become the league’s best player and really rebuild his image on and off the field. Additionally, he would get paid well for joining the XFL and will definitely catch the attention of NFL teams.

Nfl

Furthermore, the XFL is during the offseason, so if he signs a one year deal and performs really well, Gordon will be in a much better position to capitalize on his talents.

I think it would be a tragic ending to a talented career if Gordon retires. He has a lot left in the tank to give a team and if he still loves playing football then the XFL is a great opportunity. You can rule out the CFL because the XFL would pay more due to the need for more stars and give a bigger stage to shine.

The safe bet is the None/Retire option, but I think the XFL is worthy of a flier.

.

REPORT: Josh Gordon failing multiple drug tests in the same week led to his indefinite suspension.

XFL Futures Bet: Odds to Win the XFL Championship

With four weeks until the season starts, the XFL Championship odds have seen some changes since the post-draft release of betting lines back in late-October to early November:

  • Dallas Renegades (+300)
  • New York Guardians (+400)
  • Wildcats (+500)
  • Tampa Bay Vipers (+500)
  • Houston Roughnecks (+750)
  • C. Defenders (+800)
  • Louis Battle Hawks (+1000)
  • Seattle Dragons (+1000)
Currently, Caesars has shuffled the XFL deck and now views the Tampa Bay Vipers as a co-favorite with the Dallas Renegades. Additionally, there has been some movement with a few preciously favored teams falling in the eyes of oddsmakers:
  • Dallas Renegades (+350)
  • Tampa Bay Vipers (+350)
  • C. Defenders (+450)
  • New York Guardians (+600)
  • Houston Roughnecks (+600)
  • A. Wildcats (+600)
  • Louis Battle Hawks (+800)
  • Seattle Dragons (+1200)

The Dallas Renegades (+350) are still the odds on favorites to win the XFL Championship. Albeit, they’re now tied with the Vipers. Their odds are in large part due to the exciting duo of head coach Bob Stoops and arguably the best QB in the league Landry Jones.

The Tampa Bay Vipers (+350) have climbed up the list as oddsmakers view this team as the best squad in the Eastern Conference, which I happen to agree with. D.C. (+450) has also climbed up the list and is now one of the favorites in the East. They were +800 following the XFL Draft.

The New York Guardians (+600) and the Los Angeles Wildcats (+600) have both fallen in the odds after sports betting sites viewed them as contenders following the XFL Draft. Now, they’re not even in the top two for their respective conferences.

The Seattle Dragons (+1200), led by Jim Zorn, are the longshot to win the XFL title this year. And, their odds have increased after going from a post-draft line of +1000 to a current line of +1200. They could be a risky flier.
